What would the world look like if we all got to work imagining- and then building - a world we were deeply in love with?
This is the question posed by climate activist and Transition Network cofounder Rob Hopkins in his latest book, How to Fall in Love with the Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World.
Rob Hopkins is a pioneer in sustainability, community resilience, and the power of collective imagination. He’s best known as the co-founder of the Transition movement, which began in Totnes, Devon, and has since inspired thousands of communities worldwide to reimagine and rebuild their local systems in response to climate change and fossil fuel dependency.
For Rob, imagination isn’t just creativity—it’s a survival tool, a catalyst for unlocking sustainable, equitable futures.
We are glad to host a fireside discussion with Rob Hopkins asking questions such as:
How to stay optimistic in unstable dark times? What are the seeds of hope?
How to apply radical imagination as Changemakers?
How can organization acquire the imagination skills and powers and apply them?
What powerful stories can we craft and tell?
Time-travel: How does this equitable and sustainable future look like?
He’s the author of several influential books, including:
The Transition Handbook
The Power of Just Doing Stuff
From What Is to What If
And his recent release: How to Fall in Love with the Future (June 2025)
He also teaches courses on future-thinking and regularly speaks at international conferences, blending activism with art, systems change, and joyful provocation.
"Rob Hopkins is one of the world’s great optimists. He really believes that things can get better, and, when he’s around, they usually do. This book will lift your spirits and give you hope." —Brian Eno, musician, producer and artist
"No one makes environmental optimism more credible or compelling than Rob Hopkins. Read this and don’t weep." —Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, chef and campaigner
“Rob Hopkins puts imagination back at the heart of future-dreaming, offering us an irresistible invitation to dream bigger and then make those dreams a reality.”— Kate Raworth, author of Doughnut Economics
