More about this event
What if food wasn’t something you buy at a supermarket, but a publicly shared good? Today’s industrial food system continues to fail millions of people and the planet. That is why more and more voices are calling for a new framing which challenges the idea of food as a purely private good: Food as a commons. With sustainability at its core this framing criticises growth-oriented markets as best way of provisioning food and imagines what it would mean to reclaim it as a shared right.
Together with food and nutrition security specialist Dr. Jose Luis Vivero Pol (Associated Researcher at University of Louvain) and Swiss food policy expert Dr. Johanna Herrigel (project manager at Biovision), the event will explore how treating food as commons could transform our societies, economies, and our relationship with the environment. Join us as we question old assumptions and unpack issues of efficiency, global power-relations, gender dynamics, and democracy.
The event will be held in a hybrid format.
